New Research Perspectives: Two Examples of Current Research Impacting Winter Operations
5/21/2019 10:10 AM - 11:00 AM
Room: 255A

Friction Measurements Used as a Metric to Evaluate Deicer

Montana State University’s Western Transportation Institute and EnviroTech Services, Inc. are collaborating to develop a new deicer performance methodology based on friction. The goal is to utilize friction sensors with simulated traffic in a repeatable, controlled environment.

Do I Currently Have Snow & Ice on My Road Network?

Vaisala’s team of researchers and scientists are developing a route-based assessment tool to create a network view of road surface temperature and state to help users have a more complete view across their networks without having to worry about having to understand multiple data sources.

After Attending This Session, You Will be Better Able to:
1. Analyze the effectiveness of a variety of commercially available deicers with friction.
2. Assess what type of information needs to be shared with various stakeholders to address automation within winter maintenance operations.
3. Ask a question about the research findings presented in these two examples.
