Construction Inspection - Negotiations
The inspector may be required to negotiate with a contractor about time and/or money regarding aspects of the work. Care should be taken not to overstep the authority that has been granted by the agency. The limits of authority should be clearly established early in the project. Remember that final authority may rest elsewhere, so do not over-commit. In some cases, trading services for credits or allowances in the work may be advantageous. This course explores contractual authority and relational factors that can affect project negotiations.
