NOAA's National Water Model:

NOAA's National Water Model:
NOAA's National Water Model:  Towards Continental Scale Water Prediction.  NOAA's National Water Model (NWM) is a hydrologic modeling framework that simulates observed and forecast streamflow over the entire continental United States. The NWM simulates the water cycle with mathematical representations of the different processes and how they fit together. The NWM produces hydrologic guidance at a very fine spatial and temporal scale. It complements official NWS river forecasts at approximately 4,000 locations across the CONUS and produces guidance at millions of other locations that do not have a traditional river forecast. This CLL will cover the complex model and how it is transforming water forecasting, new information that is available and how to access the NWM, and what the future plans are for the NWM. Webinar, 10-11 AM Central time (11 AM - 12 PM Eastern, 9-10 AM Mountain, 8-9 AM Pacific)

After attending this session, participants will be better able to:

  • Explain how NOAA is transforming water forecasting services for the nation.
  • Identify new information available and how to access it.
  • Describe NOAA's future plans for evolving the National Water Model.
