How is Asset Management Connected to EUM?
Effective Utilities Management Vision
In 2007, six associations representing the U.S. water and wastewater sector came together to support effective utility management throughout the water sector and to develop a joint strategy to identify, encourage, and recognize excellence in water and wastewater utility management. APWA was one of these six associations. Today, that number has grown to 11 associations that continue to collaborate on achieving this vision.
Relationship to Asset Management
Assets are anything that provides value or potential value. Asset management entails activities associated with maximizing the value of an asset. While assets can be either tangible or intangible, the physical infrastructure resources are the primary assets public works agencies are interested in managing efficiently in order to maximize value from those assets for stakeholders. Aligned with EUM’s, the tools and concepts available at WaterEUM’s website are valuable to the development of an agency’s asset management system, regardless of the type of assets being managed (www.watereum.org).
