Public policy decisions in Canada affect public works professionals and their work in dramatic ways. Often, they are the first to see the outcomes of policies on public infrastructure and local communities. Policy makers need to hear from public works professionals to make informed policy decisions in areas such as asset management; climate, resilience and adaptation; emergency management and preparedness; engineering and technology; transportation; utilities and public rights-of-way; and water and environmental management.
The Canadian Public Works Association (CPWA), or Association Canadienne des Travaux Publics (ACTP), was founded in 1986 to enhance the services of the American Public Works Association (APWA) to the Canadian public works community. Since that time, CPWA has become “the voice of public works in Canada.”
