Members of APWA frequently hold membership in or attend meetings of other stakeholder groups. APWA works collaboratively with the following associations who welcome an APWA representative to sit on their board or participate in working groups/subcommittees. APWA representatives will be appointed by the APWA President-Elect based on membership status, nominee qualifications and experience which best aligns with the shared goals of APWA and the external entity. In most cases, expenses to attend meetings will be the responsibility of the member.

The focus of the CAV-ELT is on policy level issues and programmatic level efforts that members can perform to help accelerate deployment of CAV. Membership includes the Directors of more than 20 state and local DOTs, Executives from automotive manufacturers from the US, Europe and Asia. USDOT representation includes NHTSA, FHWA and the Joint Program Office. The CAV-ELT is an AASHTO-led effort, supported by ITE, ITS America, TRB, and USDOT.

The subcommittee shall promote AASHTO’s safety goal of reducing highway fatalities by half in the next two decades; Promote the benefits of State Strategic Highway Safety Plans and the Highway Safety Manual; Work on technical issues such as developing, updating or commenting on various highway manuals, plans, and programs to improve safety; Assist in the delivery & evaluation of safety counter measures; Promote research to develop new safety counter measures; Recommend new policies for the Standing Committee to enact; Support the Standing Committee in reviewing Federal guidance, regulations, legislation, and programs; Assist with nominations and scoring of the AASHTO Safety Leadership Award.

This Technical Working Group (TWG) will share information and discuss current and previous V2I implementation initiatives. A peer to peer exchange will be established for those selected as Pilot Deployment Sites to share experiences with each other and all others interested. The TWG will discuss needs for future initiatives to address stated issues, especially any ‘gaps’ or issues not addressed by current or previous deployment initiatives.

In order to experiment with snow and ice control technology and systems not now in use in this nation, to determine their suitability to the United States and help introduce the use of those with most promise, the AASHTO Board of Directors endorses the concept of establishing a voluntary AASHTO Snow and Ice Pooled Fund Cooperative Program, under which testing by AASHTO Member Departments volunteering to sponsor and conduct tests can be supported financially with public sector funds voluntarily contributed by AASHTO Member Departments, Federal agencies, toll authorities, counties and cities. Beyond the principal mission stated above, the program was directed to work towards establishing a sustainable systems approach to snow and ice control in the United States—one involving the vehicle, the driver, the equipment, the materials and practices, and the receiving environment.

CGA is a member-driven association of 1,700 individuals, organizations and sponsors in every facet of the underground utility industry. Established in 2000, CGA is committed to saving lives and preventing damage to underground infrastructure by promoting effective damage prevention practices. CGA has established itself as the leading organization to reduce damages to underground facilities in North America through shared responsibility among all stakeholders.**he Common Ground Alliance is managed by the association's Board of Directors. Currently, the Board consists of stakeholder directors and at-large directors. The stakeholder directors each represent one of the seventeen CGA stakeholder categories.

APWA’s representative provides critical thinking and ideas on addressing policy and strategic issues related to the National Traffic Incident Management (TIM) Response System. The ELG is comprised of top officials from associations representing police, fire, EMS, dispatching, towing. The representative should be a certified TIM Responder Trainer and well versed with the Emergency Services Sectors.

The Institute for Sustainable Infrastructure is dedicated to working with public and private owners, designers, contractors and materials/equipment manufacturers and suppliers to forge a new vision for sustainable infrastructure using the Envision rating system. APWA’s appointees to the ISI Board of Directors should be familiar with Envision and willing to become Envision credentialed; committed to sustainability; have board experience; provide a public sector perspective; and willing to sign a Conflict of Interest Statement.

The purpose of this Consortium is to maintain a presence with the national committee to assure that public works concerns regarding homeland security issues are addressed. The Consortium’s mission is to provide a forum of key national organizations through effective collaboration, coordination and leveraging that positively influences national policies, strategies, practices and guidelines to preserve the public safety and security of the nation.
Involves two, 2-3-day meetings and monthly conference calls with approximately one hour per month review of documents. Requires an annual written report submitted to APWA. Appointee is responsible for expenses.
