Virginia U.S. Rep. McEachin Dies
U.S. Rep. Donald McEachin, 61, a Democratic lawmaker from Richmond, Va., died Monday, his office said in a
press release on Twitter. McEachin had been battling colorectal cancer for several years.
“Tonight, he lost that battle, and the people of Virginia’s Fourth Congressional District lost a hero who always, always fought for them and put them first,” the press release said.
During his first term in Congress, McEachin co-founded the United for Climate and Environmental Justice Congressional Task Force. A co-sponsor of the Environmental Justice for All Act, he also worked to expand the National Environmental Policy Act and introduce new fees on oil, gas, and coal to fund communities transitioning away from fossil fuel economies.
APWA members and staff extend their condolences to the McEachin family, friends, and staff.
