Longtime Serving Florida Congressman Alcee Hastings Dies at 84


Representative Alcee Hastings, a Democratic member of the House of Representatives representing the Fort Lauderdale area, passed away on April 6, 2021 at the age of 84. Congressman Hastings had been battling pancreatic cancer since 2018.

Congressman Hastings was most recently re-elected in November 2020 and had been in office since first being elected in 1992.  He was also known as a prominent activist in the civil rights movement. At the time of his passing, he served on the House Committee on Rules and as a member of House Democratic leadership in the role of Senior Whip.

Congressman Hastings is survived by his wife and three children.
