U.S. Senate Confirms Alejandro Mayorkas as DHS Secretary
On February 2, the U.S. Senate voted 57-43 to confirm Alejandro Mayorkas as Secretary for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS).
Mr. Mayorkas, an immigrant born in Cuba, served as a former U.S. Attorney, and during the Obama Administration he held positions as the Director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and as a Deputy Secretary within DHS. In the role of Deputy, Mr. Mayorkas focused on cybersecurity as well as immigration issues.
Mr. Mayorkas is expected to be sworn in by Vice President Kamala Harris at the White House Tuesday evening.
