APWA MEMBER REFERENCE GUIDE FOR COVID-19 VACCINE ROLLOUT INFORMATION >
Not only do we care about your education, training, and careers but we care about your health. That is why we have contacted the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), with copies having been sent to President Trump, Vice President Pence, and Congressional leadership, to request that specific frontline public works personnel be considered for inclusion in the CDC priority guidelines to states for dissemination of the COVID-19 vaccine. As you may know, the CDC is in the process of issuing guidelines recommending priority dissemination of the COVID-19 vaccine to the states. Ultimately the states have the authority to decide the priority. We felt it was important to first reach out to the federal government, and then we will provide guidance to APWA Chapters and members for contacting your appropriate state agencies to make them aware of the variety of jobs within public works that are so critical to the public safety and health of all Americans. Your advocacy is essential to this effort.
Public works directors from around the U.S. have provided us with their recommendations regarding which job functions should receive priority vaccinations. Those who:
Operate and maintain critical infrastructure services including transportation;
Manage and operate solid waste and refuse disposal systems;
Provide a clean and safe water supply;
Provide safe and clean public buildings, spaces and facilities; and
Assist with logistical efforts in setting up COVID-19 testing sites.
