On May 15, Representative Angie Craig (D-MN) introduced H.Res.969, recognizing National Public Works Week as taking place from May 17 to May 23, 2020. Representatives Brian Fitzpatrick (R-PA) and Dina Titus (D-NV), co-chairs of the House Public Works and Infrastructure Caucus, were the original cosponsors of the Resolution.

On May 19, Senator James Inhofe (R-OK) introduced S.Res.586, a similar Resolution. Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA) and several other senators from both parties were original cosponsors of the Resolution. The Resolution passed the Senate by unanimous consent.
