A message from APWA on COVID-19

Dear Members and Friends:

Whether you are in the public or private sector, COVID-19 has impacted all of us in so many different ways. It is a time for us to come together even during social distancing. Throughout North America, face-to-face meetings have been cancelled, including APWA’s North American Snow Conference and many APWA Chapter spring conferences and meetings. For some, state or local laws have prohibited different size gatherings. For others, the organizers felt that they wanted to contribute to social distancing to slow the spread of COVID-19. Whatever the case, APWA stands ready to bring our group together for networking and education whether or not we can meet in person. We also continue to work on influencing federal legislation that will provide assistance to your communities during this time. We are in constant contact with federal agencies so that we can provide you the latest information about COVID-19. We have set up a community for you to share your experiences and ask questions of others.

In the coming weeks and months, we plan to provide you with valuable resources that you have grown accustomed to expect from our association. The delivery mechanisms may be different. Sometimes events like these force businesses to do things differently while still meeting the needs of their members or customers. We hope to exceed your expectations. To this end, we encourage you to provide us with your feedback about what your current and immediate needs are so we can best serve you during this pandemic and beyond.

Recently, the APWA Board approved, with your input, a new strategic plan for 2020-2023. Despite the current set of circumstances, we have every intention of carrying out that plan. On your behalf, APWA will continue to focus on showing the value of public works to government leaders, the media, and the public. We plan to continue to provide you with excellence in education and credentialing. Our intent is to deliver an outstanding and valuable membership experience in collaboration with our chapters—even during these difficult times.

Please join us in carrying out our strategic plan. We look forward to hearing your ideas. In the meantime, APWA is open for business. Feel free to check out our website for useful information as well as our members library where you can find valuable resources. We will get through this together.
