Prime Minister Announces Government of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan

On Wednesday, March 18, Prime Minister Trudeau announced a new set of economic measures to help stabilize the economy and help Canadians affected by the impacts of the global COVID-19 outbreak.The measures, delivered as part of the Government of Canada’s COVID-19 Economic Response Plan, will provide up to $27 billion in direct support to Canadian workers and businesses, plus $55 billion to meet liquidity needs of Canadian businesses and households through tax deferrals to help stabilize the economy. The Government will need the support of the opposition parties to move these measures through expeditiously.

The Governments of Canada and the United States of America agreed to restrict travel between the two countries for essential purposes only.Trade and commerce are considered essential under this plan.

On Friday, March 20, Prime Minister Trudeau announced Canada’s Plan to Mobilize Industry to fight COVID-19, which will create pathways to deploy resources to domestic manufacturers and businesses so they can help in the fight against COVID-19.
