Congressman Elijah Cummings Passes Away at 68
Congressman Elijah Cummings, a Maryland member of the House of Representatives, passed away on Thursday. He was 68.

Cummings served in the House of Representatives for 23 years, and was reelected in November of last year. He was reelected 12 times, never receiving less than 73% of the vote.

Cummings practiced law in Maryland for 19 years, and served 14 years in the Maryland House of Delegates. He eventually rose to the position of Speaker Pro Tempore, the second highest position in the House of Delegates.
In the U.S. House of Representatives, Mr. Cummings became Chair of the House Committee on Oversight and Government Reform, and also served on the House Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure.
