First Quarter Membership Achievement Award standings out

The first quarter standings in the annual Chapter Membership Achievement Award competition show close competition in almost every division.
The annual contest begins with the start of the fiscal year on July 1 and ends on June 30. The winning chapters will all receive recognition in the In the Works e-newsletter, in the APWA Reporter and during the Awards & Recognition Ceremony at PWX, along with a chapter banner patch and a $500 check to be used for providing educational content for their chapter members.

The Chapter Membership Achievement Award was established in 2005 to encourage membership growth by honoring chapters showing the largest net increase in membership, compared to other chapters in their division.
Please note, a net increase in membership is required in order to be eligible for the financial award.
Divisions (based upon chapter’s number of members as of June 30 of previous year):

  • 100 members or less
  • 101-200 members
  • 201-300 members
  • 301-500 members
  • 501-850 members
  • More than 850 members

Every chapter in good standing is eligible for consideration. The chapter must have submitted their annual budget and financial reports to APWA no later than August 1 of the previous year in which the award is presented.
Selection is based on standing on the “Statistics Report - By Chapter Size Category”online membership report for the end of June. The chapters were put into the categories based on the membership total of July 1, 2019. The latest standings are based on the membership totals as of September 30, 2019.
The Monterey Bay Chapter is at the top of the list for overall percentage increase. Monterey Bay has increased from 176 members to 197 (plus 21) for a net gain of 11.93% in the first three months of FY ‘20.
None of the chapters less than 100 members demonstrated net growth in the first quarter. Monterey Bay is in first place in the division for 101-200 members and the Central California Chapter is on top of the division for 201-300 members with an increase of 6.59%.
In the division for chapters with 301-500 members, the Alberta Chapter saw an increase of 22 members in the first quarter of the fiscal year, good for a 4.76% increase. The South Carolina Chapter is in second place in that division with a 3.12% gain.
The Nevada Chapter has jumped out on top in the division for chapters with 501-800 members.  Nevada’s gain of 40 members was good for a 6.68% increase, and the chapter is back over the 600-member mark.
The North Carolina Chapter finished first in the division for APWA’s largest chapters more than 850 members – in the last contest and leads that category after the first quarter of the current fiscal year. North Carolina had an increase of 3.78% for the first three months, going from 1,244 members to 1,291.
If you have any questions about membership or the Chapter Membership Achievement Award, please contact Brad Patterson at bpatterson@apwa.net or (816) 595-5263. The standings are updated throughout the year.
