APWA Attends NHSC Meeting in Louisville KY

On July 31, APWA Emergency Management Technical Committee Chair Mark Ray and Government Affairs Manager Marty Williams attended the National Homeland Security Consortium’s (NHSC) annual summer meeting in Louisville, KY. Attendees included representatives from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials(AASHTO), along with several other representatives from homeland security, emergency management, and first responder organizations.
 
Highlights of the meeting included an update from Bob Kolasky, Director of the DHS National Risk Management Center (NRMC) which itself is a component of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), and a briefing on the importance of resiliency as an aspect of disaster preparation led by Mark Harvey, Senior Director for Resilience Policyof the White House’s National Security Council.
 
As a member of the NHSC, APWA participates in the consortium meetings held twice a year.
