Less than three weeks for the Chapter Membership Achievement Award Contest

There are less than three weeks remaining in the annual Chapter Membership Achievement Award contest and most divisions have a clear leader and one division is in an actual dead heat.

The Quebec Chapter remains atop the overall standings. Quebec is up 71 members for the fiscal year, which is good for a 32.87% increase. In all, there are 27 chapters that have a net increase in membership so far in the 2019 Fiscal Year.

The division for chapters with less than 100 members remains close. The Delaware Chapter has been in the top spot for most of the year and is now tied with the Arkansas Chapter. Both chapters are exactly where they each began the fiscal year in numbers of members.

The California Central Coast Chapter is having an outstanding year in membership, having added 18 members to its total and the 12.08% increase is good enough for a comfortable lead over the Louisiana Chapter in the division for chapters with 101–200 members. Louisiana has added 12 members to its roster during Fiscal Year ’19, good for a 6.38% increase. The Mississippi Chapter and the Saskatchewan Chapter have both seen membership increases for the year as well.

Quebec is the clear leader in the division for chapters with 201–300 members but there are other chapters showing impressive gains. The Oklahoma Chapter has experienced a 16.41% increase for this fiscal year and the New York Chapter is also up double digits (11.11%). The Rocky Mountain Chapter is on the verge of crossing the 300-member threshold. Rocky Mountain has gone from 276 to 298 members in FY ’19.

The Utah Chapter has added 47 members to its roster in the fiscal year, which is good for 9.59% increase and a comfortable lead in the division for 301-500 members. Utah leads over the South Carolina Chapter, which is in second place with a 5.22% increase.

The other race that is still close is in the division for chapters with 501–850 members. The Iowa Chapter holds onto the lead. Iowa is up 5.08% for the year and maintains a lead over the Ohio Chapter, which has increased membership 3.07%.

In the division for APWA’s largest chapters, those with more than 850 members, the North Carolina Chapter has held onto its big lead.  North Carolina has gone from 1,090 members to 1,219 members. North Carolina is now the sixth largest chapter in APWA. North Carolina’s 11.83% increase is well ahead of the Florida Chapter. Seven of the nine chapters in this division show an increase for the fiscal year. The Chapter Membership Achievement Award was established in 2005 to encourage membership growth by honoring chapters showing the largest net increase in membership, compared to other chapters in their division.

The winning chapters receive recognition in the In the Works e-newsletter, in the Reporter, and at PWX, along with a chapter banner patch and a $500 check to be used for providing educational content for their chapter members.

Every chapter in good standing is eligible for consideration. The chapter must have submitted their annual budget and financial reports to APWA no later than August 1 of the previous year in which the award is presented.

Selection is based on standing on the “Statistics Report - By Chapter Size Category” online membership report for the end of June. The chapters were put into the categories based on the membership total of July 1, 2018. The latest standings are based on the membership totals as of May 31, 2019.

If you have any questions about membership or the Chapter Membership Achievement Award, please contact Brad Patterson at bpatterson@apwa.net or (816) 595-5263. The standings will be updated on a regular basis.
