APWA Celebrates National Public Works Week on Capitol Hill

Since 1960, APWA has been celebrating the National Public Works Week (NPWW) across the United States and Canada.

This year, on May 21, 2019, the APWA Washington, D.C. office will be hosting a Capitol Hill roundtable discussion sponsored by the House Public Works and Infrastructure Caucus. APWA’s President-Elect Bill Spearman will be moderating the panel discussion on “Public Works and the Workforce”. The speakers will be APWA members Justin Miller from Durham, NC and Chair for APWA’s Diversity and Inclusion Committee, Tyler Palmer from Moscow, ID and a member of APWA’s Government Affairs Committee, Chris Geldart from Washington, D.C. and Director of Public Works, and Bronto Wigen from the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) Employment and Training Administration.

Last year, the APWA Washington, D.C. office partnered with D.C. DPW, and with support from the House Public Works and Infrastructure Caucus, hosted our now annual “Donuts and Trucks” event, which has become a staple of NPWW activities on Capitol Hill. This event displays public works trucks on Capitol Hill and provides the opportunity to wish Congressional Members and staff a “Happy National Public Works Week” as they head to work. The APWA Government Affairs team and D.C. DPW personnel hand out the donuts and coffee.

In addition to NPWW, Infrastructure Week is also being celebrated this month, May 13-20. APWA is an affiliate organization of Infrastructure Week and the APWA Government Affairs team will be attending numerous events taking place in Washington, D.C. to show support.
