Membership Achievement Contest into the fourth quarter

There are now three months remaining in the annual Chapter Membership Achievement Award contest and there have been some lead changes.
The Quebec Chapter remains atop the overall standings. Quebec is up 94 members in the fiscal year, good for an impressive 43.52% increase. In all, there are 27 chapters that have a net increase in membership so far in the 2019 Fiscal Year.
In the division for chapters with less than 100 members, the Delaware Chapter is still in the lead by a scant margin. Delaware is even in membership for the fiscal year (0.0%) and that remains good enough for the top spot in the six-chapter division.
The division for chapters with 101–200 members is very close. The California Central Coast Chapter had an increase of one member in March and is plus 32 for the fiscal year, good for an 8.72% increase, and first place in the division. The Monterey Bay Chapter has moved into second place in this division. Monterey Bay is also up 13 in FY ’19, a 7.26% gain.
Quebec has gone from 216 members to 310 in FY ’19, easily ahead of the other eight chapters in the division with 201–300 members. The New York Chapter has also had impressive gains in membership, moving from 297 members at the end of the previous fiscal year to 325 at the end of March, a gain of 28 members. That 9.43% increase is good for the second spot in the division.
The Utah Chapter has vaulted into the top spot in the division for chapters with 301-500 members. Utah increased its membership 26 members in March and is now up 47 for the fiscal year. The 9.59% increase has moved Utah past the San Diego/Imperial Counties Chapter. San Diego was the leader last month and is second place now with a 6.54% net increase. Five of the eight chapters in this division are showing a net increase.
The closest race is still in the division for chapters with 501–850 members. With an increase of 21 members in March, the Iowa Chapter moved past both the Sacramento and the Missouri Chapters to take over the leads. Iowa is up 10 members for the fiscal year, a 1.88% increase. Missouri is up 1.26% and is in second place.
In the division for APWA’s largest chapters, those with more than 850 members, the North Carolina Chapter has increased in membership 82 members in FY ’19, good for a very impressive 7.52% increase. The Texas Chapter is second place and seven of the nine chapters in this region have a net increase in membership.
The Chapter Membership Achievement Award was established in 2005 to encourage membership growth by honoring chapters showing the largest net increase in membership, compared to other chapters in their division.
Divisions (based upon chapter’s number of members as of June 30th of previous year):

  • 100 members or less

  • 101-200 members
  • 201-300 members
  • 301-500 members
  • 501-850 members
  • More than 850 members

The winning chapters receive recognition in the In the Works e-newsletter, in the Reporter, and at PWX, along with a chapter banner patch and a $500 check to be used for providing educational content for their chapter members.
Every chapter in good standing is eligible for consideration. However, the chapter must have submitted their annual budget and financial reports to APWA no later than August 1 of the previous year in which the award is presented.
Selection is based on standing on the “Statistics Report - By Chapter Size Category” online membership report for the end of June. The chapters were put into the categories based on the membership total of July 1, 2018. The latest standings are based on the membership totals as of March 31, 2019.
If you have any questions about membership or the Chapter Membership Achievement Award, please contact Brad Patterson at bpatterson@apwa.net or (816) 595-5263. The standings will be updated on a regular basis.
