Congress Passes One Week Extension for NFIP

The Senate and House have voted to pass the National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) Further Extension Act of 2018 (H.R. 7187), which will extend NFIP coverage through December 7, 2018. By reaching this agreement Congress avoids NFIP expiring on November 30 at midnight. This will be the eighth extension of the NFIP program since October 2017.

This legislation, originally introduced by Representative Tom MacArthur (R-NJ), will now head to President Trump for his signature. Congress may choose to attach any additional NFIP extension to a year-end spending bill, or possibly another separate short-term measure. To view the text of NFIP extension, please click here.
