Registration deadline for Chapter Leaders Training Workshop and the Winter Council of Chapters Meeting coming soon

The biennial Chapter Leaders Training, in conjunction with the Winter Council of Chapters meeting, is scheduled for January 31-February 1, 2019 in Kansas City. Use this link to go to the CLT page to find the registration information and a tentative agenda:  www.apwa.net/clt.

This event brings chapter leaders − including presidents, presidents-elect, treasurers, membership committee chairs and others – to Kansas City where they can interact with their peers from all over North America.

This year this two-day workshop provides chapter leaders and Council of Chapter delegates the opportunity to understand how chapters and branches work with APWA National, the services and resources available to chapters from National, and provides an excellent opportunity to network with leaders and delegates from other chapters.

To help offset the cost, APWA provides stipends to the chapters:
  • Up to a $700 stipend to send two individuals ($350 per person) to the Chapter Leaders Training, and
  • $500 for delegates to attend the Council of Chapters meetings.

If a chapter would like to send more than two leaders to Chapter Leaders Training, there is a $200 registration fee for each person to cover food and beverage costs.

With the holidays fast approaching, be sure to register early for Chapter Leaders Training and book your hotel reservations, so you can enjoy your time with family. The deadline for hotel reservations is January 9, 2019, in order to book at the special room rate of $159/night (plus applicable taxes and fees).

2019 Awards Program open for submissions

Deadline for the Excellence in Snow and Ice Control Award is less than a week away.

The deadline changed to December 3, 2018 this year. The judging now includes some changes to accommodate a preliminary review and still be able to choose the winner(s) in February.
All other awards excluding the PACE (Presidential Award for Chapter Excellence) are due March 4, 2019. The PACE deadline will be June 3, 2019. To qualify to submit for the PACE a chapter that has more than 500 members needs to submit a Top Ten Public Works Leader candidate and three other award nominations of their choice. Chapters with 500 members or less need only to submit one award nomination of their choice.

Webinar survey results released

A short survey was recently sent out to all chapter and branch leaders asking what topics they would like to see covered in the webinars produced by the Membership Department and how they prefer to view those webinars.
Here is a link to the survey results:
From the results, it was apparent that our chapter leaders prefer watching both live and recorded webinars. The membership department webinars are recorded live and are also available on the Chapter Leaders’ YouTube channel accessible through the APWA website chapter leaders page. The two choices for topics were Chapter Membership Recruitment and Retention, and How to use the Chapter Leader Resources area.
There was a “write in” option to add topics, which added an additional thirty-two answers to this question. Some of these topics will be answered in upcoming webinars and some topics will be covered at the upcoming Chapter Leaders Training. Other suggestions will be used to help program future webinars.
