November 11-17 is National Traffic Incident Response Awareness Week

Each year, APWA participates in recognizing National Traffic Incident Response Awareness Week (NTIRAW). This year, NTIRAW is being recognized from November 11-17, where traffic incident management (TIM) professionals come together to raise awareness of the dangers emergency responders face during traffic incidents. During NTIRAW, the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), state departments of transportation (DOTs), Turnpike Authorities, responder agencies and organizations such as APWA, mark the week with targeted online messaging, video sharing, ride-along opportunities, social media campaigns and more!

On November 14, APWA will be attending the 13th meeting of the TIM Executive Leadership Group at the U.S. Department of Transportation (US DOT) headquarters in Washington, D.C. APWA is represented on the ELG TIM by APWA member Harry Weed from NY, and APWA’s Government Affairs Director Andrea Eales. In addition to the ELG TIM meeting, on November 15, APWA, along with other TIM supporters, will participate in a NTIRAW specific event on the National Mall. Finally, throughout the entire week APWA will be promoting NTIRAW on social media. We encourage you to get involved in the conversation using: #SafeIncidents, #MoveOver and #MoveOverSlowDown.

Additionally, the FHWA TIM Program team invites all TIM responders and champions to participate in a webinar to kick-off NTIRAW on Nov. 13, 1:00-2:00 pm ET. The webinar will highlight efforts throughout the nation to bring attention to the dangers responders face when responding to traffic incidents. It will also highlight the state of practice among state and regional TIM programs, and provide an overview of broader national efforts in TIM. To register for this webinar, please click here.

Is your organization participating by planning ride-along opportunities or holding any NTIRAW related events? Let us know and we’ll gladly promote your efforts on our social media channels!
