EPA Invites 39 Projects to Apply for WIFIA Loans
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) announced the Water Infrastructure Finance and Innovation Act (WIFIA) program has selected 39 projects to apply for WIFIA loans for the FY 2018 cycle. The projects are located in 16 states and the District of Columbia.
EPA received a record 62 letters of interest (LOI) from prospective borrowers across the country for the FY18 cycle. The invited applicants include a wide variety of projects, including wastewater, drinking water, water recycling, desalination, stormwater management, and combined approaches. The project applications will collectively finance $10 billion in water infrastructure upgrades.
While most prospective borrowers are municipal government agencies, other prospective borrowers include small communities, public-private partnerships, corporations, and a tribe. The WIFIA program was recently reauthorized by the enactment of America's Water Infrastructure Act last month.
