House Passes Bill to Increase Cybersecurity Tools for Small Businesses
On May 8, the House of Representatives voted to pass H.R. 3170, the Small Business Development Center Cyber Training Act, introduced by Representatives Steve Chabot (R-OH) and Dwight Evans (D-PA). If enacted, H.R. 3170 would mandate the Small Business Administration (SBA) provide a cyber counseling certification program, or training, for employees of Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) receiving federal grants.
SBDC is funded in part through a partnership with SBA, providing assistance to small businesses and aspiring entrepreneurs throughout the United States and its territories. This includes free business consulting and low-cost training services, lending assistance, and disaster recovery assistance. Senator James E. Risch (R-ID) has introduced similar legislation, S. 1428, the Small Business Cyber Training Act, however a timetable for a vote has not been announced.
