Opportunities to Participate

APWA Chapter Contact

We are seeking members to serve as contacts between their APWA chapter and the national Emergency Management Committee on issues concerning mitigation, prevention, preparedness and planning, response, recovery and training opportunities.  Time commitment involves participation in chapter activities and coordinating communication between the chapter and national committee.

Knowledge Team

APWA’s Emergency Management Committee is committed to finding new ways to engage APWA members on topics of interest in Emergency Management. The Emergency Management Knowledge Team has been created to expand volunteer opportunities to those who may be interested in contributing on a national level to the Emergency Management Committee and the APWA membership. Knowledge Team members will have a unique opportunity to share their input with the Emergency Management Committee and have a primary role in shaping the future of APWA and public works leaders. Members of the Knowledge Team will commit to share information with APWA members through working on projects such as writing articles, presenting Click, Listen, and Learn sessions, speaking at PWX and other conferences, and other methods. If you are interested in joining the Emergency Management Knowledge Team, please contact Rita Cassida.

Authors/Reviewers
Emergency Management Education Initiatives

The Committee is currently assisting in the development of several publications and education initiatives. The Committee is working with the APWA staff to develop a series of public works emergency management planning guidance documents and other training initiatives. If you have any good ideas we would appreciate your input.

The Committee has collaborated with FEMA's Emergency Management Institute (EMI) in developing emergency management online courses. These include The Public Works Role in Emergency Management (IS-552); Emergency Planning and Public Works (IS-554); Damage Assessment and Public Works (IS-556); and Public Works and Disaster Recovery (IS-558).  From time to time APWA will request member assistance in reviewing these programs and would welcome volunteers for such endeavors.  We recognize that your emergency management training requirements differ from your state and local emergency managers and are committed to supplement those training needs.

Peer Resource Directory

APWA has compiled a directory of expert resources to supplement member needs during disasters. If you have an interest or responsibility for disaster management and would be interested in sharing your expertise with members in need, contact the Emergency Management Committee Staff Liaison.
