Mission
The International Affairs Committee (IAC), founded in 1989, works to advance the contributions of public works to humanity’s sustainability and well-being and raise awareness of APWA’s role in facilitating the international exchange of ideas, programs, services and technologies among public works practitioners and like-minded organizations worldwide.
About the Committee
Some of the IAC’s key objectives are to:
- Manage APWA’s Jennings Randolph International Fellowship Program, including solicitation and review of applications, recommendation of candidates and funding of fellowship recipients.
- Enhance strategic alliances with other related associations and organizations.
- Provide international resources to APWA members and chapters.
To advance these objectives, the IAC has established three subcommittees.
Jennings Randolph International Fellowship Program Subcommittee
The focus of this subcommittee is to manage, promote and grow the Jennings Randolph International Fellowship Program. Each year, the IAC appoints five of its members to serve on the Jennings Randolph International Fellowship Program Review Task Force to solicit and review applications and make recommendations about candidates and the funding of fellowship recipients. The subcommittee also looks broadly at improving and growing the Jennings Randolph International Fellowship Program.
International Partnership Collaboration Subcommittee
The focus of this subcommittee is to contribute international perspectives to APWA education programs and resources, such as the International Infrastructure Roundtable at PWX, facilitate technology exchange and collaboration with APWA’s International Partners, and manage the APWA International Ambassador Program at PWX.
Chapter International Exchange Programs Subcommittee
The focus of this subcommittee is to promote International Public Works Exchanges and assist APWA chapters in hosting international public works professionals in their communities. From time to time, APWA is contacted by public works professionals from international partner associations indicating they would like to arrange a public works study tour in the USA and/or Canada. The IAC has developed two documents to assist APWA chapters in hosting and organizing public works study tours in their communities:
