Winter maintenance is a complex operational activity which means in essence there are a whole bunch of ways in which things can go wrong. Good training provides inoculation against such errors, and should be part of every agency’s winter maintenance program. This program will explore first how training works and what levels of training are appropriate for what level of operations and employee responsibility. Then will examine in depth training options for operators, for managers, and for training situations where both operators and managers are being trained at the same time. This in depth examination will include examples of what worked and what did not work in each of the situations covered. The CLL will also look at how we can measure how effective our training has been.

After viewing this program, participants will be better able to: – Identify the sort of training that they need to address specific issues in their agencies. – Prepare a training program for their employees that ensures they are inoculated against the challenges posed by the complexities of winter maintenance operations. – Evaluate the effectiveness of their training program and to identify areas that need adjustment to improve the value of their training to their winter maintenance operations.
