The City of Arlington seeks a Civil Engineer or Graduate Engineer. Under general direction, plans, designs and reviews construction plans for major paving and drainage projects. Performs all contract management functions for paving and drainage projects.
CIVIL ENGINEER
SALARY: $5,007.92-6,259.92/month
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1.Ability to manage assigned capital paving and drainage projects through design, right-of-way, utility and construction phases. 2. Ability to evaluate proposals related to projects requiring contract engineering work, direct the preparation project cost estimates for competitive bidding purposes and review plans of consulting/engineering firms performing work for the City and evaluate their performance. 3. Ability to process contractor estimates, perform construction contract modifications and negotiate contract changes and change order costs and final acceptance of construction. 4. Ability to make presentations, facilitate meetings, and compile written reports to City Council, various committees and commissions, professional and technical personnel, and the public. 5. Ability to respond to difficult and sensitive public inquiries and assist with resolutions and alternative recommendations. OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS: 6. Ability to evaluate all engineering related issues during the acquisition of property and utility relocation phases for paving and drainage projects. 7. Ability to provide expert testimony to City Council, District Courts, and other various boards or commissions as required. 8. Manages complex grant projects, including CDBG, and manages payment and reimbursement schedules. 9. Ability to provide information and technical assistance to other departments, consultants, developers, citizens and other City employees.
Qualifying Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering plus four years experience in the field of public works engineering, paving, drainage, water, or wastewater, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience. Possession of a valid Driver's License (Class C). Professional Engineer (PE) license with the ability to secure Texas registration within six months. This position requires successful completion of criminal background check, motor vehicle record check and drug & alcohol testing.
GRADUATE ENGINEER
SALARY: $4,045.33-5,056.67/month
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 1.Ability to manage assigned capital paving and drainage projects through design, right-of-way, utility and construction phases. 2. Ability to evaluate proposals, review construction plans, coordinate and monitor plans and specifications related to paving and drainage projects including communication with appropriate parties to gain information needed to complete design project.
3. Ability to administer assigned projects from design to construction, including preparing detailed reports submitted to City Council; including the ability to process contractor estimates, process and minimize contract modifications and change orders. 4. Ability to help maintain records, files, computer models, and status reports of projects.
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
5. Ability to provide information and technical assistance to other city departments, consultants, developers, citizens, other city employees and assistance for engineering related issues during the acquisition of property and utility relocation phases for paving and drainage projects.
Qualifying Education and Experience: Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related science or equivalent combination of education and experience. Possession of a valid Driver's License (Class C). Engineer in Training (EIT)/ Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certificate or the ability to obtain one within 1 year of hire. This position requires successful completion of criminal background check, motor vehicle record check and drug & alcohol testing.
