The Board of Public Works of the City of Anderson is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Director, Water Treatment & Distribution. The Director reports to the Chairman, Board of Public Works. The person in this position will direct the City’s water treatment plant and distribution system, as a successor to the incumbent Water Superintendent who has recently announced his retirement. The City of Anderson owns and operates a water utility serving approximately 24,000 customers with annual revenues of approximately $7.5 million.
Candidates must have a minimum of 10 years engineering and/or operations experience with a public or private water utility, at least 5 years of which includes management responsibility for one or more key functional areas. Possession of Indiana Water Treatment Operator certification (WT-5 and DSL) is required within one (1) year of the date of employment. Possession of a valid Indiana certificate of registration as a Professional Engineer is desirable. Experience with wastewater utilities and/or combination water/wastewater utilities is desirable but not required. Required education includes graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with an ABET-accredited degree in engineering (civil engineering preferred) and/or a degree in business administration. Registration as a Professional Engineer is desired.
The Board is seeking candidates with broad water utility management experience and demonstrated leadership capabilities. Important competencies include governance and public policy, strategic and business planning, performance management, financial management (planning, budgeting and reporting), human resources and workforce relations, infrastructure management and operations, customer relations, regulatory compliance, and safety. The successful candidate must have excellent people and communications skills, preference for working collaboratively at all organizational levels, and a strong commitment to municipal utility principles.
