The City of Ontario Engineering Department seeks a well qualified individual to play a key role in the inspection of public works construction projects. The Senior Public Works Inspector is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the inspection of a wide variety of construction work performed on public property. An ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to lead and participate in the inspection of a variety of highly complex public works construction activities including; streets, water, sewer, storm drain, traffic signals, and street lights. In addition, the ideal candidate will be able to recognize conditions likely to result in structural failure, and will have the ability to interpret and enforce codes and regulations firmly, tactfully, and impartially.
The Engineering Department
The City of Ontario Engineering Department, under the direction of City Engineer Louis Abi-Younes, serves the needs of the citizens of Ontario by providing professional engineering services to the community and City government. The department is dedicated to maintaining the highest level of responsiveness which serves to characterize a business friendly environment to serving our community. The department is charged with the overseeing, planning, designing, and implementation of infrastructure projects.
The essential functions normally performed by the Senior Public Works Inspector include the following:
Applications will be reviewed in the order in which they are received to determine if the applicant possesses any combination of education and/or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential functions of the position. A typical combination includes:
Education: Graduation from high school or recognized equivalent supplemented by technical courses in engineering or related subjects.
Experience: Seven (7) years of experience in the field of public works construction activities.
License: Valid Class C California driver’s license and an acceptable driving record at the time of appointment and throughout employment.
Desirable Certifications: Certification as a Qualified SWPPP Practitioner (QSP) or certification as a Certified Erosion, Sediment and Storm Water Inspector (CESSWI) is desirable.
