Salary and Benefits:  Salary will be determined depending on qualifications and experience. Addison participates in the Texas Municipal Retirement System (TMRS) at a 7% employee deposit rate with a municipal matching ratio of 2:1.

Addison, Texas, is seeking a Building Official. Addison is a unique 4.4-square mile urban enclave that boasts 170+ restaurants, 22 hotels, upscale living, unique retail shops, and more than 12 million square feet of office space. Addison is located in the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex and has a population of 15,830, over 270 employees, and an annual operating budget of over $106.6 million.

The Building Official reports to the Assistant Director of Development Services. The position reviews building plans for compliance with ordinances by interpreting and enforcing the building, plumbing, mechanical, electrical, and energy codes. This will also involve direct communication with contractors, architects, and the public regarding the permitting process and requirements. The position directly supervises two building inspectors and includes the daily prioritization and assignment of work. Oversight and interpretation of the sign code and management of code enforcement activities are additional key responsibilities.

The chosen candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, construction management, business or a related field. A focus on architecture or construction is preferred. A minimum of five years of experience in building design, inspection, or construction is required. The individual hired must be an International Code Council Certified Building Official, and possess a State of Texas inspector’s plumbing license, or have the ability to obtain within one year of employment.
