ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF PUBLIC WORKS

The Village of Glendale Heights (pop. 34,208) seeks an energetic, experienced professional for the position in the Public Works Department. Glendale Heights is a diverse community covering approximately six square miles in DuPage County.

The Assistant Director of Public Works will support the Director with varied assignments requiring initiative and independent judgment in making technical and managerial decisions of considerable consequences. The Assistant Director will provide organizational direction and leadership to 41 staff through department supervisors.

Duties of the position include assisting the Director with complex supervisory, administrative and professional work in planning, organizing, directing, and supervising the work of Utilities, Streets & Fleet, Water Pollution Control Facility, Engineering and other public works projects and programs. Additional responsibilities include assisting the Director with preparation and oversight of contractual, maintenance, and construction projects; and the preparation of various documents, presentations, and reports. The Assistant Director will perform the duties of the Department Director or Division Supervisors in their absence. Must have solid knowledge of the laws, ordinances, and statues that apply, strong leadership, project management skills, and proficiency with MS Office.

The successful candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in a public works/engineering field AND six (6) years of related administrative experience, which includes three (3) years of supervisory experience; or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved. A history of innovative thinking, contract administration, prior position advancements and a commitment to continued education are highly desirable.

The starting salary is $81,203, commensurate with qualifications and experience. The Village of Glendale Heights offers a generous health and dental benefits package to full-time employees.
