MECHANIC I /VEHICLE MAINTENANCE

Part-time Hours: 20 per week

This is semi-skilled and skilled work at the apprentice level in the preventative maintenance and repair of gasoline and diesel driven light and heavy equipment. The employees of this class performs tasks in preventative maintenance of automobiles, light duty trucks, some heavy duty trucks, and various pieces of equipment including mowers, edgers, trimmers, saws and generators. Preventative maintenance duties include the two lower-level preventative maintenance functions (A and B services) and oil changes. Some repairs are performed, including minor welding, changing and repair of tires on automobiles and light duty trucks, and other duties relating to the upkeep of the shop and equipment. This position also, at times, drives an automobile or service truck.

MINIMUM EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS:

Graduation from high school or equivalent. Minimum of 1 years of experience as an apprentice automotive mechanic; prefer two years’ experience with a variety of automotive equipment, prefer completion of a related vocational course. Must be able to obtain and maintain a State of Florida Class “B” Commercial driver’s license with air brakes within 90 days of employment. Employee must furnish own basic automotive hand tools.
