Stationary Engineer

Building Maintenance Division, Department of Public Works

The Marin County Human Resources Department and the Marin County Department of Public Works are announcing a recruitment for the position of Stationary Engineer. The Building Maintenance Division is responsible for more than 50 County-owned facilities including libraries, fire stations, sheriff stations, flood control pump stations, office buildings and two lock-down facilities. Reporting to the Building Maintenance Supervisor, this position is responsible for the maintenance and repair of a large variety of equipment used in industrial plants and facilities and may provide work direction to staff on an assignment basis. Amongst other assignments, this position is expected to maintain and repair flood control and sewage pump stations, flood control pumps, natural gas and diesel generators and air conditioning systems.

The ideal candidate has knowledge of and experience in performing routine building operations and maintenance including plumbing, electrical, construction and HVAC, and is capable of independently repairing and maintaining a wide variety of air conditioning systems. The candidate has experience leading staff on assignments, has personal and professional integrity, is highly organized, possesses excellent communication and interpersonal skills, approaches work with enthusiasm, and demonstrates a strong commitment to customer service. The ideal candidate also is effective in maintaining good public relations, dealing effectively with individuals of various ages and backgrounds, uses sound independent judgment within established procedural guidelines, and is knowledgeable regarding the safe operation of hand and power tools used in facility and equipment maintenance and repair. In addition, the candidate is capable of working independently for extended periods of time in remote locations, outdoors in any weather conditions and can work non-standard schedules including evenings, nights and weekends.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Typically, equivalent to four years of recent full-time progressively responsible experience in building maintenance/mechanical work and operation or in a related trade or craft which demonstrates possession of the knowledge and ability requirements listed in the class specification.
