This is professional, technical and supervisory work within an analytical quality control laboratory involving the application of chemical and biological quality control procedures to ensure development of accurate and representative scientific data related to analysis of potable water, industrial and domestic wastewater, stormwater, and solid waste management activities. The information developed is utilized in managerial decision-making, treatment plant process control, and environmental quality reports to regulatory agencies. An employee in this class performs and oversees all assigned analytical testing in accordance with current accepted standards and procedures to maintain compliance of laboratory activities with state and federal requirements for continuous laboratory certification. An employee in this position supervises laboratory personnel in the application of sampling and testing procedures to achieve reliable and valid analytical results. Work is reviewed by an immediate supervisor through conferences, reports, and observation of performance.
1. Possess a bachelor's degree from an accredited four year college or university with major course work in chemistry, environmental chemistry, chemical engineering or a closely related field.
2. Possess at least two (2) years of paid work experience in chemical analysis, preferably in environmental quality control. At least one (1) year of experience in using United States Environmental Protection Agency (USEPA) methods. Some supervisory experience or training is preferred.
3. Additional qualifying work experience in environmental chemistry and quality control/quality assurance may be substituted on a two (2) years-for-one (1) year basis for up to two (2) years of the required college education.
