The City of Farmington in Farmington, New Mexico is seeking a Traffic Engineer.
The Four Corners area boasts year-round pleasant climate with low humidity and comfortable temperatures. Farmington is an ideal base for touring the Four Corners area and the ultimate location for explorers, history buffs, and nature lovers alike. The City is surrounded by ancient Native American cultural sites, world-class skiing in the San Juan Mountains, and record trout fishing in nearby rivers and lakes. The Four Corners region is rich with Native American history, National Parks, and World Heritage Sites.
The Traffic Engineering Division is responsible for the safe and efficient movement of traffic through the City of Farmington. The division maintains and installs all traffic control devices within the City and administers the City’s street light program. Traffic control includes pavement markings over 335 lane miles, 651 crosswalks, along with symbols and curb marking painted per year, as well as maintenance of over 10,000 signs which include regulatory, warning, school, street name, and others. The City has 83 traffic signals, of which 77 have emergency vehicle preemption systems. The City also provides contract maintenance for ten signals outside of the City limits. The street lighting system has over 4,300 lights citywide.
The Traffic Engineering division investigates traffic complaints and responds to citizen requests regarding traffic control and street lighting issues by working closely with police to ensure safe and efficient traffic flows.
The City of Farmington is looking for an individual to lead the Traffic Engineering division with strong leadership and organizational skills coupled with the necessary ability to adapt to changing priorities. Projects will require working effectively with a team of professionals, engineers, and technicians. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background in traffic engineering and will relate easily to others during the course of work, including employees at all levels and members of the public.
