Overview: This position is located in the District Department of Transportation (DDOT), Transportation Operations Administration, Street and Bridge Maintenance Division. The incumbent is responsible for managing the operations and activities of the Street and Bridge Maintenance Program throughout the District of Columbia. The incumbent works under the general supervision of the Associate Director. Guidelines consist of civil/structural engineering texts, handbooks and journals, manufacturers and suppliers' catalogues, DC Codes and established departmental policies and procedures.
Brief Description of Duties: Plans, directs and monitors, on a daily basis, the bridge and street maintenance programs, projects and activities. Manages the DDOT Bridge and Street Maintenance Program. Plans, manages and operates activities associated with public space/Right-Of-Way (ROW) maintenance, which includes streets, bridges, street lighting, traffic signage, and snow removal. Through subordinate supervisors, manages the functions of the various sections of the division. Manages and directs a structural inspections program, and maintenance and repair program for all District-owned bridges, viaducts, underpasses, tunnels, culverts, retaining walls and wharves. Establishes, evaluates, implements and updates division, policies and procedures to ensure compliance with governing laws, regulations, and policies. Prepares and recommends as indicated, major modification or new program, polices and directions pertinent to division operations and improvement. Oversees the review of contractor bids and reviews submissions of recommendations for awards. Ensures that all activities involved in the administration of contracts, inspection for conformance to plans, specifications, standard construction procedures, coordination and public relations involving external audiences, are properly and efficiently performed. Directs activities related to the preparation, administration and execution of the division budget, including forecast of future expenditure requirements.
