The City of Ames, Iowa, is conducting a recruitment for a Parks and Facilities Maintenance Supervisor. Under the direction of the Park and Facilities Superintendent, leads team in work assignments and participates in the work necessary to assure excellent parks and recreational grounds and facilities. Through leadership, performs a variety of managerial and technical tasks related to performing assigned areas of responsibility.

Examples of Essential Job Functions: In conjunction with the Parks and Facilities work team, prioritizes, plans, schedules, and leads a team of employees (including seasonal workers) in the construction, maintenance, management, and evaluation of the City's parks and recreational grounds and facilities; leads efforts related to seasonal employee selection; motivates and manages the performance of assigned team members; recommends and assists in the implementation of division/department goals and objectives; assures grounds and facilities are inspected for needed maintenance and repairs; assures that inventory supplies, equipment, and chemicals needed to perform functions are maintained; responsible for the response to emergency situations after hours; ensures and directs staff to utilize safe work practices; as requested, prepares reports on operations and work activities; implements the Preventative Facility Maintenance Program; receives, answers and remedies citizen complaints regarding Parks and Recreation problems; keeps necessary records and makes required reports; responds to citizen inquiries for information or service; may work nights, evenings, or weekends when inclement weather, emergencies, or other situations require working these hours. Reviews work practices and procedures to ensure efficiency and effectiveness; as requested prepares cost estimates; assists in preparation of the annual budget and reviews budgetary expenditures and revenues; assists in the development of specifications for competitive bidding; coordinates staff development, conferences and professional meetings for the team and its members; operates various equipment to perform essential functions; works with contractors; reads blueprints and plans; enthusiastically works with and supports other City departments; works with community service groups, individuals, and volunteers to assure quality parks and facilities; performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience: An Associate's degree and five years of experience in park maintenance, horticulture, forestry, building maintenance or construction management, including two years of experience in supervision of staff. An equivalent combination of education and experience may also be considered.

Licenses and Certificates: Must possess a valid driver's license. Must obtain Iowa Pesticide Applicator Certification within one month of appointment. Must obtain certified pool operators certification within six months of appointment. Residency requirement of a 12 mile radius from Ames City Hall. APPLICATIONS MAY BE FILED ONLINE AT:
