Job Description

Lake County is seeking an individual who performs work of moderate difficulty in engineering surveying for road and bridge construction projects. This position will report to the supervisor of our survey crew.

Required Skills

To be successful in this position, the individual must have good knowledge of surveying principles and practices; the ability to perform various surveying tasks including, but not limited to; the ability to set horizontal and vertical control using robotic total stations, GPS, and levels; the ability to read and comprehend construction plans; the ability to utilize survey equipment to acquire accurate data for right-of-way surveys, topographic surveys, and construction layout. The candidate must be proficient with robotic total stations and GPS instruments, and also be able to operate them as a one-person crew when required. Experience with Trimble survey equipment and Micro Station is a plus. Candidate must have a flexible schedule, ability to meet deadlines, and work overtime when necessary. Supervision is received from a higher-level technician or the surveyor.

Required Experience

We are looking for an individual who has possession of a valid driver’s license and a Bachelor’s Degree in surveying, civil engineering, construction technology, or related field plus two to seven years of experience OR two to five years of experience with a National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET) Level II OR an Associate’s Degree in surveying, civil engineering, construction technology, or related plus four to eight years of experience OR a high school diploma or general education degree (GED) plus six to twelve years of land surveying experience.
