The Town of Florence is seeking qualified applicants for our Utilities Director position. This is a department director position performing highly complex duties in planning, organizing, directing and supervising the Utilities Department, consisting of water, wastewater and sanitation functions. The Utilities Department was split from the Public Works Department a year ago to bring greater focus to meeting the challenges of providing public utility services to our citizens today and in the future. We’ve had a contract employee directing the department since then, and are now recruiting to fill the position with a regular employee. Both the Town and 2 private water/wastewater companies provide service to Town residents. Local voters are being asked to approve the acquisition of the private water/wastewater companies and if approved and the Town moves forward with the purchase, this acquisition will eventually add about 100 employees and put the Town in position to better influence and guide development in the future.
Education and Experience
Requires a degree in Engineering, Public Administration, or related field, plus at least six (6) years of public utility operations experience, including at least three years in a supervisory capacity, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Certifications in water and wastewater collection and treatment would be a plus.
