The primary function of this position is to plan, organize and perform a wide variety of responsible tasks in the operations, function, and maintenance and repair of the City’s automotive and equipment fleet.

The Fleet Foreman will work under the general guidance and direction of the Superintendent of General Services. Primary job duties include the care and maintenance of a variety of municipal vehicles and pieces of equipment, while supervising up to six (6) full-time employees. The position will be expected to develop and maintain a preventive maintenance plan for the City’s fleet, assist in development of a vehicle replacement program and play an active role in ensuring all facets of vehicle and equipment maintenance are addressed. The position will have significant contract development and oversight responsibilities. It is important that the position follows safety procedures, utilizes safety equipment, and monitors work environment to ensure safety of employees and other individuals; Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures; Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. The position must follow the City-wide safety policies and practices and adhere to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the City's Safety Handbook.
High school diploma or GED equivalent and additional technical training; Six (6) years’ experience in the repair of a wide variety of vehicles and at least three (3) years of supervisory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Must possess a State of Illinois Class “B” (CDL) driver’s license and have the ability to obtain the air brakes endorsement within 3 months of employment.
Sufficient clarity of hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and communicate with others; Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, comprehend written work instructions, technical documents and diagrams; Sufficient manual dexterity with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate standard office equipment and to make adjustments to equipment; Sufficient body mobility, flexibility, and balance to perform field inspections that require bending, stooping, kneeling, stretching, and other physical exertions.
Approximately 40 hours per week, primarily week day and occasionally weekend hours. This is an IMRF (pension) position with excellent benefits. Starting salary is between $76,447 to $99,381, commensurate with experience.
