Serves as the Manager of Planning, Recycling and Enforcement for the Fairfax County Solid Waste Management Program. Responsible for professional work in multiple programs areas including:

Activities to monitor and implement the recycling program for a jurisdiction of about one-million residents and thousands of businesses;Enforcement of the county's Solid Waste Management ordinance, Chapter 109.1, including required code revisions;Short- and long-term planning needs for the Solid Waste Management Program;Outreach and education for the county's Solid Waste Management Program; andThe preparation of a variety of annual reports.

Serves as a member of the department's leadership team and has responsibility for program administration, policy implementation, and direct management of a staff of about 10 professionals.

Any combination of education, training, and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree in environmental sciences, engineering, construction management, or related field; plus five years of progressively more responsible experience in a field appropriate to the assigned program area.

A valid driver’s license.

Supervisory and/or team leadership experience and the ability to work collaboratively with community and industry groups, as well as field and professional staff. Professional experience in solid waste management, planning, permitting and regulatory compliance including thorough knowledge of state and federal environmental laws and regulations and engineering standards. Demonstrated experience in community outreach and education to resolve difficult environmental issues. Knowledgeable about legislative and regulatory actions concerning solid waste. Experience implementing solid waste regulations. Possesses excellent oral and written communication skills.

This position is designated as Emergency Service Personnel and therefore is expected to report to work during periods of inclement weather or other emergencies. The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
