The City of Great Falls is searching for a motivated leader for the newly created Environmental Division within the Public Works Department. Major responsibilities include directing compliance, monitoring, testing, budgeting and safety and training programs; managing the Industrial Pretreatment, Storm Water and FOG programs and Waste Water Treatment Plant reporting and compliance; coordinating assigned activities with other City departments, divisions and outside agencies; providing public outreach and education for environmental programs. The Supervisor provides support to the Public Works Director along with supplying leadership to the technicians within the division.
The ideal candidate will have a high degree of understanding of department and functional operations and have the capacity to work with considerable initiative. The ability to form effective working relationships with MTDEQ, EPA, consultants, city staff, commissioners and citizen groups is necessary along with skill in explaining complex regulations and requirements in a clear, concise manner. Strong interpersonal skills, proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, ability to interpret codes, review plans and make inspections are required.
Minimum qualifications include a bachelor's degree in Environmental Engineering or related field, Montana professional engineers (P.E.) license within six months, ability to obtain a Montana Class 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's license and possession of a Montana State Driver's License or the ability to acquire one and five or more years of professional experience in a related field.
