Hennepin County's Public Works Department has a vacancy for a Fleet Operations Maintenance Supervisor in the Central Mobile Equipment Division (CMED). This division provides centralized fleet management services for all of Hennepin County. CMED is seeking an individual with shop service management skills to provide comprehensive fleet maintenance management for the county's fleet of 1,100+ units. The fleet includes cars, light and heavy-duty trucks, emergency vehicles, off road equipment, boats, snowmobiles, and other miscellaneous equipment.

This position requires being available for on-call duty after hours, on weekends, and on holidays on a rotating schedule. Hours vary during winter season based on snow and ice control needs.

This position is located at the Public Works Facility in Medina. The facility is located on a 146-acre campus, situated only 30 minutes from downtown Minneapolis, just 7 miles west of I-494. The campus offers scenic walking trails, free parking, and a striking facility that has been critically recognized for its green architecture and natural light.

Best Qualified Candidates will have:

Five years or more of journeyman mechanic experience, including at least two years of related supervisory experience or four years or more of lead worker experience. (Completion of an approved job-related technical training program or 30 credits or more in job-related technical courses or public works management courses from an accredited school may be substituted for one year of the required experience.)Possession of a valid driver's license and be able to obtain a Hennepin County Driver's Permit. Click here to read about the County Permit Program.(The candidate hired will be required to obtain a Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) during the probationary period.)Experience as a shop or dealership service manager with people management skills while balancing multiple priorities.Experience as an auto/truck, diesel, and/or heavy equipment mechanic.Shift management, shop flow management, and/or parts/warehouse inventory management experience.Experience with methods, materials, and equipment used in equipment maintenance operations.Experience working with fleet management software operating systems (such as Asset Works M5).Ability to:Manage personnel and materials efficiently.Communicate orally and in writing with staff at all levels of the organization.Make good decisions based on analysis, experience, and judgment in a timely manner.
