The City of Napa has an immediate vacancy within the Water Division of the Department of Public Works for a Junior Engineer. The Water Division is a 24/7 operation that provides safe, reliable potable water to over 85,000 persons throughout Napa Valley. The most successful candidate will have familiarity with AutoCAD, GIS, and Microsoft Excel and be a quick learner with the ability to effectively review development plans as well as create utility plans for construction improvements under general direction of a professional engineer.
The most successful candidate will have strong attention to detail and be able to read construction plans, understand hydraulic principles, water treatment principles, and learn the operating parameters of conventional water treatment plants and a complex pressurized water system. Additionally, the most successful candidate will be eager to perform office and field work as needed to respond to unplanned maintenance projects or assess existing conditions and plan capital improvements in the treatment, transmission and distribution systems.
The ability to interact with engineers, maintenance personnel and private developers on a routine basis as well as explain water system principles and enforce standards of construction are key components of a successful Junior Engineer. This position performs engineering services in a dynamic environment to the team that serves its customers with a sense of pride and urgency in the operation and maintenance of the critical water system.
Any combination of experience and education which would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in civil engineering or a closely related field or possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training certificate. No experience is required.
