Senior Operations Manager/Deputy Director of Public Works
City of Lynchburg, Department of Public Works is seeking a senior level Operations Manager and/or Deputy Director to deliver cross divisional leadership and technical expertise to line employees, supervisors and department managers. The actual title and responsibilities will be determined based on the successful applicant's education, experience, knowledge and abilities. The successful candidate will have extensive senior level experience, in some or all of the following areas: Buildings, Grounds, Street Maintenance and Refuse Collection. This position requires direct involvement in emergency response. Candidates must also have strong interpersonal skills to lead staff, lead change and to interact with citizens and citizen groups in an effective manner. The ideal candidate(s) must have an open communication style with the ability to speak, listen and write effectively. Position requires a bachelor's degree in one of the following areas: public administration, business administration, engineering or other related fields and have extensive experience in the public sector, preferably with Public Works operations. The candidate must also possess considerable experience in supervising professional, technical and operations staff.
