The City of Birmingham is seeking qualified candidates for a seasonal Public Works Inspector position for the 2014 construction season. Duties will include inspection of road and underground utilities construction projects, preparation and recording of engineering sketches and inspection reports, and other related duties.

Requirements:

  • High school Diploma, or equivalent, plus additional education in civil engineering or construction technology or related field.
  • 3-5 years experience in Civil Engineering and/or Public Works Inspection, including installation of sewer, water main, and street paving projects.
  • Ability to work independently, and represent the City with contractors and the general public required.
  • Knowledge of FieldBook, CAD, GIS, and office software preferred.
  • State of Michigan Water Distribution and Construction Stormwater Inspection certifications preferred.

Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.

Hours & Wages

Monday through Friday work schedule, with potential Saturday shifts, as necessary. Starting at $25 to $27.50 per hour, based on qualifications.

Engineering Department

The Engineering Department is responsible for a number of operations throughout the City of Birmingham.  This Department manages approximately  85 miles of streets, 101 miles of water mains, 2 elevated water storage tanks, and serves approximately 8,500 water service customers.  Additionally, the Department oversees the administration of MDEQ permits and requirements, and the Rouge River watershed including Quarton Lake.
