Employees in this position perform a variety of duties in support of the Public Works Department including the receipt, storage, issuance and inventory of materials, supplies, tools and equipment.

  • Receive, stock, and issue materials, supplies, tools, and equipment; verify incoming shipments for appropriate quantity and quality.
  • Inventory supplies, materials, tools and equipment; report replacement needs; assist in annual inventory.
  • Maintain files and records; compile records of supply transactions; input and retrieve data from a computer terminal.
  • Prepare correspondence, reports and other administrative documents.
  • Process invoices, claim vouchers, purchase orders, and local purchase orders ensuring appropriate approvals are obtained; requisition and purchase a variety of materials and supplies; set up monthly purchase orders.
  • Operate appropriate equipment including a forklift, threading machine, and office machines including a computer.
  • Check tools in and out; insure adequate operation of tools; perform minor maintenance as required.



One year of warehouse experience or one year of general maintenance experience in a Public Works environment and/or one year of administrative experience in a warehouse or supply environment. 

Formal or informal education or training which ensures the ability to read and write at a level necessary for successful job performance.  High School Diploma or equivalent is preferred.

Possession of a valid driver's license is required.

Ability to obtain and maintain forklift certification.


The City of Vallejo has one (1) vacancy for the position of Warehouse Specialist in the Department of Public Works, Maintenance Division.  The City will only consider applicants who meet the posted minimum requirements.  The Register of Eligibles list created from this recruitment will be used to fill this vacancy and additional vacancies in this position for at least one (1) year. This position will close upon receipt of the first 100 applications or Friday, February 17, 2014 whichever comes first. 


Step 1: Application Submittal
Submit a City of Vallejo Application of Employment.  Applications may be obtained and completed on-line at
www.ci.vallejo.ca.us under "Employment Opportunities" OR from the Department of Human Resources, 1st Floor, City Hall, 555 Santa Clara Street, Vallejo, CA 94590.  This position will close upon receipt of the first 100 applications or Friday, February 17, 2014 whichever comes first.

Step 2:  Applicant Screening 
Applications will be screened for minimum qualifications (required training, education, and license) candidates must meet the posted minimum requirements to be considered.  Those candidates found to be the most qualified will be invited to participate in the written exam. 

Pool of Candidates:
The City reserves the right to limit the number of candidates to those determined to be the most qualified

Step 3: Examination
Written Examination will be given, weighted at 100% of the candidates score.  Candidates must achieve a minimum passing score of 70%. Those achieving 70% or higher will be placed on the Register of Eligibles List. The written exam is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, March 6, 2014.

Step 4: Department Interview:
Candidates who qualify for placement on the Register of Eligibles List names will be forwarded to the department for final interviews based on their performance in the written exam.           
Veteran's preference points will be applied in accordance with Civil Service Rule 24. A copy of the DD 214 formmust be filed at time of application. Seniority points will apply as set forth under Civil Service Rule 10.5.
