The Town of Castle Rock has an outstanding opportunity for a skilled and experienced Fleet Technician. Under direct supervision of the Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, the purpose of the position is to maintain, diagnose, and repair all types of automobiles, light and heavy duty trucks, and light and heavy duty equipment, at a skilled work level. Position is also responsible for maintaining and repairing generators, pumps, small portable equipment, and fire and police vehicles. Performs duties in a manner consistent with the stated values of the organization.
Responsibilities include conducting maintenance, inspection, testing, diagnosis, and repair operations on all vehicle and equipment systems including engines, gas, diesel, and alternative fueled vehicles. Lubricates and changes oil; repairs flats, shocks, lights, brakes and steam-cleans engines on vehicles. Will service and repair ignitions, differentials, transmissions, transfer cases, suspensions, steering, driveline systems, electrical, air conditioning, exhaust, hydraulic, and cooling systems. Work includes interpreting job orders and tracks inventory. Welds and/or retrofits automobiles and maintenance equipment. Conducts engine analyzer tests. Conducts annual Department of Transportation inspections. Installs two-way radios and other accessories to prepare new vehicles and equipment for use. Repairs and maintains riding lawn mowers, push mowers, edgers, blowers, and power saws. Participates in overhauling motors and minor repairs of street sweepers. Provides necessary information for completion of work orders. Provides care and maintenance of shop equipment.
Qualifications: Generally, a High School Diploma or GED equivalent; supplemented with vocational training in auto and equipment repair and three (3) years previous experience as a mechanic; or any equivalent combination. Commercial Drivers License with Class A and Air Brake Endorsements within three (3) months of employment. Must meet requirements for Department of Transportation Certified Air Brake Inspector within one and a half (1 ½) years of employment. Must satisfactorily complete a driving record check and criminal background check prior to commencing employment.
