THE POSITION: Under direction, performs and/or assists in skilled electrical work in the installation, operation, general maintenance repair, and adjustment of traffic signals. Schedules, leads, and participates in the work activities of traffic signal crews. Trains employees and inspects work in progress and completed work. Is responsible for the safe and efficient performance of assigned duties. Assigns work and monitors activities of staff assigned to the electrical division including street lights, traffic signal maintenance and HVAC. Develops a weekly work schedule and plans workload requirements in accordance with designated priorities and objectives. Organizes crews with manpower and equipment to accomplish assignments. Participates directly in complex and difficult on-site maintenance, service, repair, and construction activities. Performs troubleshooting and fault identification to determine the nature of electrical problems. Assures the accomplishment of annual maintenance and performance objectives set by the Maintenance Manager. Prepares and maintains a variety of reports and records. Supervises the maintenance and issuance of tools, equipment, supplies, and materials. Reviews plans for traffic signals and street lighting, and City facilities for future City projects. Performs other related duties as assigned.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: Any combination equivalent to training and experience that could likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities would be qualifying: A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: completion of high school or equivalent and four (4) years of journey level experience in electrical maintenance, repair, servicing, installation, and construction. At least one (1) year of experience must include coordinating or providing technical or general supervision of others.
LICENSE & CERTIFICATES: Possession of a valid California Class B driver license. Level 1 Traffic Signal Certificate. Required to obtain Level II Traffic Signal Certificate within one (1) year of hire.
